"No sex allowed in the U.S." -President Bush
02.13.04 (10:33 pm)   [edit]
Okay, he didn't really say that. But, he is proposing to double the funding for programs that teach abstinence only, rather than sex education.

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is proposing to double spending on sexual abstinence programs that bar any discussion of birth control or condoms to prevent pregnancy or AIDS despite a lack of evidence that such programs work.

Let's think about this logically. If we abstain from having sex, we will not get pregnant or get AIDS or other sexually transmitted diseases. Makes sense. However, sex is a natural process and all living creatures naturally are inclined to have sex of some sort. In Bush's perfect world, I suppose, no one would have sex until they were married (homosexuals would no longer exist, as gay marriage would be illegal), and then only for the purpose of procreating. That's just not realistic. There is an innate inclination for sexual behavior in all of us and no amount of abstinence teaching is going to dissuade sexual activity.

Teaching proper condom use and the effects and side-effects of the birth control pill does not equate to promoting sexual activity in teenagers. To be perfectly honest, a great deal of sexual desire is related to passion and lust- things greatly inhibited by such clinical things as condoms and pills. Believe me, talk of irregular menstrual bleeding, nausea, headaches, dizziness, mood changes, and rare occurrences of blood clots (common side effects of the birth control pill) isn't exactly arousing and doesn't in any way encourage one to go out and have sex. Anyway, abstinence works only if people choose to consistently abstain from sex. If we increase funding to programs that only teach abstinence and leave out education on proper condom use and ways of preventing STDs or pregnancy if one chooses to partake in sexual activity, what do you think happens once people do start having sex? And what about those who will have sex regardless of the message of abstinence programs? And seriously, how much funding is actually needed for programs that really do nothing in terms of educating but preach the message of not having sex? In addition, how much money does medical care require in contrast to proper sex education? As sex is biologically natural, it makes very little sense to focus solely on ensuring that people do not have sex. The needs of society could be better met than by doubling the tax payer funded programs that do little good.

france has a lower abortion rate, a lower rate of veneral diseases and a lower rate of teenage pregnancies than the u.s.a.-- they teach sex education --

you are absolutely right: sounds like one of john ashcroft's hair-brain schemes based upon some kind of insane notion that simply saying 'don't have sex' will stop people from having sex ... HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ... might help if the bushies would read the history of the world--

moreover, jeez, i'm amazed that people don't see that this is another swindle of u.s. taxpayers for some of bush's campaign contributors who are raping america senseless, any way they can embezzle the treasury ...

p.s. remember when we were told to use plastic sheets & duct tape to protect us from WMDs attacks (as if that would protect us: ha ha ha ha ha)-- the guy who has the effective monopology on duct tape (and who made a bloody fortune) is one of Cheney's cronies!!!!

surprise ... surprise ... surprise ...

with these goons & thugs in the bush regime: it really is a case of 'FOLLOW THE MONEY'!

Nothing is wrong with sex ed, but the premier lesson in sex ed must be abstinence. There is no other way to 100% prevent STDs and Pregnancy.
France also has had RU-486 sold for nearly a year or more if I remember correctly so that may account for a portion of the lower abortion rates.
Abstinence is key. Hell even Dr. Ruth who has writing 24 books about sexual intimacy states that abstinence is the premier way to eliminate std's and pregnancy. Also it has been studied and proven that married couples experience better sex. What is better sex you may ask. Well they surveyed so many married monogamous couples and so many not married people etc etc They also evaluated women's responses as to how many O's they had on a regular basis.
Abstinence however is a lot easier to preach than to practice, or at least it was for me. But I think it is admirable that someone in a position of power like GWB would try to help the youth of this country hold on to some moral fiber and lower costs for sex related medical expenses at the same time. That is a truely Conservative ideology and should be applauded not assaulted.

Um, yeah, abstinence is the best way to avoid unwanted pregnancy or STDs. Abstinence should be taught, but excluding actual sex education is more dangerous than beneficial and not likely to do much good. And the fact that Bush wants to double the funding for abstinence only programs is ridiculous, and not exactly conservative. ;)

It’s like paying double for anti-sex education.

Sex ed is most important and needed—not only in school, but at a child’s home. Children, being curious, will ask about sex. The worst thing to do is to say: “Oh, you’re not old enough yet”, or, to get embarrassed at the thought of explaining sex and then freezing-up. This will only put a “taboo” on the subject, and the sexual act specifically, in the child’s mind. Sex ed has to be inclusive to all aspects of the sexual act, and the physiology of the male and female body. It must consist of not only sex in general, but the consequences of: unwanted pregnancy, AIDS, and other STDs. And most importantly, the use of condoms, birth-control pills, and other forms of birth control and disease prevention—including abstinence. (Though in the heat of passion, abstinence does not work very successfully). The pleasure of sex is usually left out of sex ed. This must be taught, also. If all that is taught were the grim aspects of disease and pregnancy, it would only create apprehension and psychological fear in the sexual act. Sex is a wonderful experience, and no taboo—either from a god of nonsense or the misteaching by whomever—must ever pierce the most magnificent, rational, and normal experiences in human life and of human happiness. Basically, we just need to use our heads.

Never riding in a car is the best way to avoid car accidents. And people who ride in cars only on special occasions enjoy the ride a lot more than people who drive to work every morning.

LOL, yep, and not living in a house is the best way not to get crushed when the earthquake strikes.

And of course, not eating is the best way not to get food poisoning. It's probably why Bush is working so hard at making sure 3rd world countries ppl can't eat - his charitable mind has him highly concerned.

Also, while the RU-486 pill may contribute to the lower abortion rate (although, it in fact doesn't, since statistically an RU-486 induced abortion is still an abortion), it certainly doesn't have any impact on the spread of syphillis and ghonorea (excuse the spelling), so.... could it be that sex education does work?

Just an idea:

Why doesn't Bush start a worldwide masturbation fund program? Being such a professional jerk, he should know all about it.

Hey, it'd fix both the issues of AIDS/abortions/etc and of uncontrollable sexual drive.

Yep. No more copulation, no more fornication, masturbation on a grand scale is now the cool thing if you're a responsible citizen.

Ok, Bush, let's all jerk off along with you.

Hmmm, what could we call it? How about:

"National Day of Masturbation".

And some slogans:

"Just Say No to Sex";

"Masturbate and Live";

"Why date when you can masturbate”;

“Don’t be a jerk. Just Jerk!”, and:

“Use your head. Use your hands”.

They can have this contrived TV commercial with a teenage woman and a baby, and how tough it is for her. And at the end of the commercial, the voiceover says:

“Don’t let this happen to you. Brought to you by: The National Council on Masturbation”.

Bush’s religion is obviously not separate from his policies. Maybe it’s time for him to have a “focus-group” on the US Constitution.

We can't have controls and regulations on our lives and the choices that we make, or wish to make.

Aren’t those “born-again” types, as Bush is, opposed to masturbation, also? Gee, I think I’d be hitting the bottle pretty hard! Hmmm, no sex, no masturbation, no nothing! How about no food, no water, no car, no sunshine, no friends, no music, no words, no rights, no freedom…
