Super Bowl conspiracy theory
01.31.04 (8:24 pm)   [edit]
Now, you'll have to work with me- I'm not very good at formulating conspiracy theories. That being said, it is a fairly typical, cynical reaction of many sports fans (usually when their team is the one that loses) to claim that it is rigged. And maybe it is, who really knows? This year's Super Bowl features the New England Patriots against the Carolina Panthers. Being a Colts fan, I am predisposed to the inclination of considering the games rigged. But this goes beyond the NFL. It goes straight to the White House. Is it merely a coincidence that the Patriots have made it to the Superbowl in a year when the nation finds itself in a war, a war that is clearly and deeply dividing the nation? Sure, they won the Superbowl a few years ago, but come on, it's clearly a ploy initiated by the powers that be to promote patriotism and garner support for the war. Okay, still not convinced? Consider the State of the Union Address. Bush invited Tom Brady, not Jake Delhomme. Bush even addressed the use of steroids by athletes just for the opportunity to point out that the quarterback of the Patriots, apparently, supports Bush. All this considered, plus the push towards renewing the Patriot Act, leads to the clear conclusion that the Bush Administration has instructed the NFL to ensure a victory by the Patriots. All bets should be placed on New England.

That's kind of funny. Scary, but funny.

Funny stuff, but if Bush is as Corrupt as everyone says then couldn't this all be a ruse to get everyone leaning to the Pats to get the odds in his favor when he goes the other way on the longshot Panthers?
Or maybe what they say about him being stupid is right and we should look to the Panthers as the clear favs cause only a stupid man would support the Pats.
The left has me so confused. Too many conspiracy theories and too much playing both sides of the fence. ;-)

OMG, you're on to something here!!!

You forgot one key part of the conspiracy, however. The Carolina Panthers are actually the military arm of the notorious Black Panthers. Patriots vs. Domestic Terrorists - now that's a good game!

Disclaimer: This is a joke. Do not get your panties in a bunch. Breathe deeply.

Hmm, good points. Man, this conspiracy theory stuff is complicated. I don't know how they do it, although I guess you can draw parallels between just about anything to fit your theory. I'm either not that smart or not that crazy, I guess. :)

Wow, I didn't even think about the Panthers- I should've known there must be some reason for them being there, too (I figured it was just for an easy victory). I guess any Carolina fans could be considered unpatriotic, but I didn't even think about the Panthers being terrorists, too. Thanks!!

Seems your theory was more correct than my postulates seeing as how the Pats won.
Does that mean that Bush is neither corrupt nor stupid?

Nice try, but I don't think we can exclude the possibilities of Bush being stupid or corrupt. I mean, he did orchestrate a conspiracy within the NFL- I particularly liked the red, white, and blue confetti at the end of the game- so he must be corrupt, clearly. And as for stupid, well, no need to go there. :)

And what did the Patriots call their defense? "Homeland Defense"! I like how you think...you could just be right!

Haha, thanks. And I think I am right- if not a conspiracy set up by the White House, then at least the NFL must have decided to give the victory to New England. ;)
