As my loyal readers (if there are any) are well aware, I have been fairly absent from tblog for quite some time. Though I haven't been writing, I do occasionally check in on some of my favorite blogs (as well as some I have a tendency to despise). I have noticed a disgraceful trend amongst the tblog political posters, particularly in recent days. For quite some time, there has been nothing but ugly rhetoric exchanged between those on the right, those on the left, and those of us who dare disagree with either side. At times, this is okay. Arguing can be productive in political discussions. It can also be a complete distraction from the issues at hand. And this is what tblog politics has sadly become- a disgraceful distraction. Blogs created for the sole purpose of hateful bashing of another blogger are immature and ineffective in accomplishing anything other than irrelevant bickering. That's not to say that they aren't quite often entertaining or even beneficial for comic relief. To this end, I would mention one of my favorite blogs; that of the ever popular and talented [url=http://jimmytherighteous .tblo...]jimmytherighteous[/url]. The intent of his blog from its onset was to point out the errors of another blogger. And also to poke fun at him. At times, this blog has possibly crossed the line and been nothing other than a forum for insults. However, jimmytherighteous at the very least shows integrity by providing real arguments against the points others have made. This is not the case with many of the newly created hate-oriented blogs. The imitation blogs, such as CheckItQut, flipsidown, refucto, etc., are nothing but immature, unproductive assaults on others. It is ridiculous. At times, yes, they are funny. But I find it to be incredibly disgraceful for those who I know have the capability to discuss [b]important[/b] issues rationally and effectively to resort to such tactics. There is little point to a political forum in which posting is nothing other than name-calling and a seeming contest to see who can come up with the best bash against another blogger. Do you guys really have nothing better to do with yourselves than fight so immaturely with people you don't even know? If so, keep it up- I'm sure no one will read your inane arguments other than yourselves. However, if you are truly interested in promoting discussion of relevant and important topics, I urge all of you to redeem yourselves by overcoming these juvenile tactics and returning to respectful dialog and informative posts. As an exercise (and an attempt to restore some integrity to tblog politics), I would like to extend an invitation to all political bloggers to write just one blog that relies on facts, logic, and intelligence, rather than insults, immature language, and irrelevant nonsense to provide insight into your position on one of the following topics: What do you think is the single most important issue in this year's presidential race, and who do you think will win? Does John Kerry have a consistent position on the war in Iraq, and, if elected, would he be an effective leader in this war? Has George W. Bush misled the country regarding Iraq, and is his doctrine of preemption in our nation's best interest? No useless rhetoric, no name-calling, no personal attacks, just the facts, your opinion and insight. I hope that isn't too difficult. Once you've written your blog, let me know in the comments section here, and the best blog I read will have 1000 tbucks donated in their name to the charity of their choice. |

Thanks for taking a stand for decency amongst bloggers! I agree it's getting pretty nasty out there. I may take you up on your challenge, but in the meantime I did write a post a couple of days back about why I'm voting for Kerry. I encourage you to check it out.

Yea, this reminds me of Jon Stewart on Crossfire a few days ago. This crap partisans spew doesn't help their position and it doesn't help America. I've had my ideas challenged and changed for the better by blogs here, but not one of those did it by telling me how my views were by Nazis, non-Christians, people who can't catch a football, communists or fascists. I honestly don't understand the point. (beyond hilarious entertainment value)

Sorry, but in Bush's case the word "fascist" is not too strong. Indeed, eminent scholars, historians and political analysts use this word to accurately describe the type of leader he is, and that "fascism" is indeed on the rise in the USA.

Yeah, I know what you mean - I hardly post nor even check tBlog any longer. Yesterday, I posted something about this place turning into a circus, as well as a funny post about stem cells: the circus one got lots of attention, but the stem cells one ignored altogether. Makes you wonder what's attracting ppl's interest. Oh well... what do I care in view of where I live anyway.

Funny to see how quickly the comments digressed even here. I wonder who these people are that find it so necessary to be hostile and immature. As you mentioned, it serves absolutely no purpose towards intelligent discussion, where people can learn from each other. I'm also in agreement - hitting back the same way is inappropriate. It makes both sides look bad. It's better to ignore them rather than lower oneself to the same level. Negative energy only breeds more of the same, and frankly this country doesn't need anymore of that.

Touché! But sérieusement, pourquoi pas indeed? On pourrait y travailler ensemble. Mon blog préféré est celui de BlondeSense, et c'est en fait 3 filles qui le partagent. BlondeSense n'est pas sur tBlog (see my blog to get the link - speaking of links I remember you whining about me not linking you... so I did..... but.... where is ME on your page, huh???? :-)
Anyway, where was I - gee, do you realize it's 3:40 in the fuckin' morning out here, girl?
Oh yeah, BlondeSense's blog: not only very well put together, very interesting/informative/entertaining, but an insight in what readers IQ is, compared to tBlog. She always gets tons of comments (and rightly so), so pick any topic and check them out: you'll find the people there are adults with a brain instead of the.... whatever you wish to name them here.
Réfléchis (does it take an "s" at the end?) à mon idée: with your brains and my looks, on pourrait faire un killer blog!

I choose their side but like you I am willling to do whatever it will take to protect the culture they created and not the one your group seems to want. Watch what you ask for if you think that a country without morality is acceptable.

Absolument, mon ami: I religiously change my "moto's" oil every 3000 km (~ 2000 miles). The poor old thing clocks near 100,000 km, but I intend to keep it going some more.
Ok, well, till next time. I'm afraid tBlog is not grabbing my interest any longer, but I'll try to check it out once or twice a week and post some light hearted satire for those who like to smile.
