People everywhere, even schoolchildren, should be free to express their religious beliefs, but you cannot require government agents to lead them in an oath of feality to God, even if the particular God is not defined. posted by: DragonBait22 (reply) post date: 03.24.04 (9:35 pm) Reply to: therealspartacus007 How strange, I'd never expect you to agree with me! ;) posted by: therealspartacus007 (reply) post date: 03.24.04 (9:44 pm) Reply to: DragonBait22 lol, I'm just full of surprises posted by: question (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (5:52 am) I think that the pledge of allegiance is a bogus chant. It resembles recitation of bible verses. Plus, you read your pseudo bible verse pledge to your country, and throw God's name in there (in vain) to make it appear as if what our country does is sanctioned or dictated by God. Our government is made of man, not of God. The pledge of allegiance is intended to produce a fervor, and acts as mass hypnosis of the public. We are not under God. If we were, then we wouldn't be committing such un-Godly acts, would we. We should be asking how we can bless God, instead of proclaiming "God Bless America". It is a rather crass manipulation of those who have been taught to be blindly obedient to authority figures such as the "president". posted by: mblog (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (10:46 am) It's wrong to say that it's not a specific faith. It was put in due to lobbying of the Catholic church. Jews and Muslims are more likely to avoid using the name of God outside of prayer or printing it on money or school handouts that are destined to be shredded or destroyed. The Bible says how to use the name of God, and it's wrong from a biblical perspective to destroy or misuse the name of God. Other religious groups will not get involved because there are more important fights than this and the backlash is not worth it. At the time that this got put into the pledge, and the motto was added to our paper money, there were no laws protecting religious minorities from workplace discrimination or other very basic things. If you could not get a job with most big businesses for not being Christian, would you be fighting to have God taken off our money or pledge? posted by: DragonBait22 (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (5:59 pm) Reply to: juniperflux You're absolutely right, and I think I made similar points in my new post on the Pledge. Any additional thoughts are welcome. :) posted by: kids*can*talk *for*ourselves (reply) post date: 04.05.04 (7:26 pm) Bull!!! I am a kid, and I know people came to this country for religiuos freedom. No one in my class is afraid to take a stand and not say the pledge, but they say it because we believe God helped our country to progress. I mean, even the president was saying pray after 9-11. Kids all agree with me on this, that taking that out will be unjustified. Don't you dare use kids as an excuss anymore, we WANT it in there. We like it how it is, and we darn sure know what it means. Our fathers didn't come here not thinking about God, that belief developed later. I am a kid, I have taken polls for other kids, and I KNOW what we want. And for your info, we are all different religions, and we still all agree. "Under God" isn't misused, we are thanking him for getting us here today, to what we have become, and all he has blessed us through. Think from our prespective, as kids, and we don't care what religion you are, we are all American, and we should all come together, instead of arguing over little things that won't help us, as a country, to be better. And I say this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. posted by: "In God we trust" (reply) post date: 04.07.04 (6:28 pm) Hello to all! I would like to say that I believe it should be left in. ON our coins it says "In God we trust", and don't we swear on the bible in court? Why complain about this issue now? Well my opinion dosen't cout for much, but there it is. posted by: "In God we trust" (reply) post date: 04.07.04 (6:28 pm) Hello to all! I would like to say that I believe it should be left in.
